Department of English

The Department of English at M.I.E.T. Arts & Science College established its Undergraduate Course (B.A. English) in 2009 and introduced the Postgraduate Course (M.A. English) in 2016, with an intake capacity of 35 students for the PG program. The department is dedicated to fostering language skills and literary knowledge among students. It conducts a variety of activities to enhance academic and professional skills, including: Guest Lectures and workshops by experts in the field. Literary activities such as debates, elocutions, mime programs, and creative writing sessions to build confidence and literary acumen. Bridge Courses for first-year students to improve communication skills. Weekly Book Reviews for final-year UG and all PG students to develop analytical and critical thinking. Faculty members actively encourage students to participate in seminars, conferences, workshops, and cultural competitions at various institutions. The department also organizes special coaching sessions for competitive exams like UGC NET, TNPSC, BANK, and Railway Examinations, equipping students for broader career opportunities. The department facilitates discussions on social issues, feminism, gender equality, and history, providing a comprehensive platform for academic and intellectual growth. Through the Training and Placement Centre, students are given opportunities for campus interviews, ensuring their transition into professional roles.

1. To enhance students’ LSRW skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing) through activities like oratorical competitions and creative writing.

3. To enrich communication skills through workshops, literary clubs, and cultural events, offering rural students the tools to thrive in competitive environments.
4. To nurture critical thinking and literary exploration through interactions with literary movies, discussions, and debates on relevant topics.
