The Department of Biochemistry at M.I.E.T. Arts & Science College was established in1993, with thePostgraduate Course introduced in 1995. The department has consistently excelled in academics and co-curricular activities, producing students with a strong foundation in both theoretical and experimental biochemistry. With a total intake of 40 students as per university regulations, the department is supported by dedicated and experienced faculty specializing in teaching, research, and laboratory techniques. The department’s infrastructure is designed to provide a conducive environment for quality education and hands-on training. Biochemistry forms the foundation of several interdisciplinary fields, including Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Molecular Biology. It is integral to advancements inAgriculture, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Environmental Sciences. Recent innovations inBiotechnology and Industrial Applications owe much to the principles of Biochemistry. The department places a strong emphasis on applied and clinically-oriented teaching, ensuring students receive an objective-driven learning experience. With state-of-the-art laboratories, students gain valuable practical exposure, preparing them for advanced studies and professional opportunities.
TTo redefine the basic concepts of life sciences through the education of our students, fostering a deeper understanding of life at the molecular level while contributing to the environment and society.

EXNORA CLUB
The exnora club of the college was inaugurated by esteemed person Exn.P .Mohan ,Founder, Youth Exnora, International-TN/University/ Trichy on 12.01.2024 in the seminar hall. The students of this club are involved in various activities related to the environment. Awareness regarding to the various pollution /pollutants , their impacts and ways to conceive such issues associated with thw quality of life created.
OBJECTIVES
To maintain the cleanliness inside and outside of the campus.
To Create the awareness to protect the natural resources.
To create the awareness of global warming
CLUB ACTIVITY(YOUTH EXNORA )
Our Department Club (YEI) Conduct a awareness programme on 18.7.24 X2- XTRAORDINERY XERISCAPING in seminar hall by Mr.B.N.Rahamadhullah, Chief Ecologist,BN –Organic farm,Trichy.The resource person were given a motivation for green environment and organic farming.
Red Ribbon Club (RRC)
The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) is a voluntary organization in colleges that aims to educate students on HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and support. The RRC is a movement started by the Government of India.
The Red Ribbon club was inaugurated by esteemed person DR.Masilamni ,Asst prof,Department of Geography ,Bharathidasn University/ Trichy on 10.01.2024 in our college.
OBJECTIVES
To increase awareness on sexual reproductive health and HIV/AIDS
To impart skills on communication, self-protection, negotiation, and effective group interaction
To prepare youth as peer educators/agents of change by developing their skills on leadership and team building.
To encourage blood donations.
To serve as forums for students to participate in the fight against HIV/AIDS
SEMINAR
Department of biochemistry conducted a seminar on 28.7.2023 VERMI COMPOSTING in seminar hall by Dr.M. Salahudeen Assistant Professor ,Department of zoology, JMC ,Trichy.The resource person were given a valuable demonstration of vermi composting and the uses of compost.
Before that Department of biochemistry Inaugurate the association of ECOB and introduced our office bearers.
WORKSHOP
The Department of biochemistry and microbiology conducted a workshop in “Mushroom Cultivation ‘’ on 27.09.2023 in the seminar hall. .Resource persons are Dr.K.Mohamed Rafi., Asst.prof, Department of Botany ,JMC ., and Dr.K.chitra Devi., Asst prof., Department of Microbiology, SIGC ,Trichy. The resource persons were given a demonstration of the manufacturing process and explained about mushroom cultivation and encourage the students to the entrepreneur.
