Department of English
The Department of English at M.I.E.T. Arts & Science College was established in 2009 with the introduction of the Undergraduate Course (B.A. English). In 2016, the department expanded to offer a Postgraduate Course (M.A. English). As per university regulations, the department has an intake capacity of 60 students for UG and 35 students for PG programs. The department is dedicated to developing students’ literary knowledge, communication skills, and critical thinking abilities. To achieve this, it organizes guest lectures, workshops, and literary activities such as debates, elocutions, and mime programs. A Bridge Course is conducted for first-year students to enhance their communication skills, while weekly Book Reviews are arranged for final-year UG and PG students to cultivate analytical and interpretative skills. The department encourages students to participate in academic programs like seminars, conferences, and workshops in other institutions and offers special classes for competitive exams, including UGC NET, TNPSC, Bank, and Railway Examinations. With a focus on holistic development, the department provides opportunities for campus placements through the Training and Placement Centre, enabling students to explore careers in diverse fields. The department fosters an environment where students can engage in discussions on topics such as social issues, feminism, gender equality, and history, helping them to broaden their perspectives and excel academically. Graduates leave the program equipped with in-depth literary knowledge and enhanced language skills, ready to succeed in their chosen paths.
To strengthen students with a liberal education, fostering their language skills and literary knowledge to prepare them for global opportunities.
1. To enhance students’ LSRW skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing) through activities like oratory competitions and creative writing.
2. To mold students for successful careers through a well-equipped syllabus and experiential learning.
3. To enrich communication skills through workshops, literary movies, and active participation in literary clubs.
4. To provide opportunities for rural students to gain confidence and knowledge through everyday language experiences.

SPOKETN ENGLISH CLASS
The PG Department of English, in association with the IQAC, organized a 10-day Spoken English Course in collaboration with Axximum Business Solutions, Trichy, with whom a formal MoU has been signed to promote skill-based training. The sessions were skillfully handled by Ms. Kalaiyarasi S., Communication Trainer, who provided interactive and practical modules focusing on fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, and workplace communication. This programme marked a significant step in enhancing students’ communication competence and employability skills through academic–industry collaboration.
Seminar – “From Campus to Corporate: Mindset Shift for Career Success”
Seminar – “From Campus to Corporate: Mindset Shift for Career Success” The PG Department of English, MIET Arts and Science College, Trichy, conducted a seminar on 08.08.2025 with Mr. A. Jayaseelan, Senior Executive – L&D, Trichy, as Guest of Honour. Dr. Y. Glory Violet Aron, Principal (In-Charge), delivered the Presidential Address. Mr. Jayaseelan motivated students to aim for corporate employment and stressed the importance of transforming their mindset for career success. The programme featured a Welcome Address by Mr. G. Muthukumar, Introduction of the Chief Guest by Ms. R. Christal Priya, and Vote of Thanks by Mr. D. Balamurugn. The session inspired students to bridge the gap between academics and the corporate world.
PLACEMENT
The Training and Placement Cell of MIET Arts and Science College, Trichy organized a TWO DAY seminar on the topic “A Preparatory Session on Interview” on 16.10.2024 & 17.10.2024 from 10: 30 to 2:00 at the Seminar Hall and the Valediction was held on 6th November, 2024 Ms. A. Vijayalakshmi, from Department of English receives the Entry Card from Ms. Vinodhini, Central Manager of BIG LEARN. Based on the performance the selected students were given opportunity either to opt for a technical course in BIG LEARN or to attend an Interview in the same after the completion of the UG.

SEMINAR
The Department of English organized a Seminar regarding the topic “ENGLISH FOR LITERARY AESTHETICS AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION” on 25 Aug 2022. Dr.M.JAYACHANDRAN, M.A.,M.Phil.,PhD., Assistant Professor Research Department of English, Srimad Andavan Arts and Science College, Trichy was the chief guest of the seminar. It helps the students to figure out the elements in a piece of writing that relate to beauty and the emotions it evokes.
WORKSHOP
The Department of English organised a workshop on “ENRICHMENT OF THE ENTRIES IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE” on 13 March2023. DR.G.EKAMBARAM Head and Assistant Professor Research Department of English, Lakshmi Bangaru Arts and Science College, Melmaruvathur, was the chief guest of the workshop. It helps the students to become more proficient readers and speakers of the English language.

The Department of English proudly marked its achievement at the Inter-Collegiate Literary Fe(a)st for Women – JAM LIT FIESTA’25 hosted by Jamal Mohamed College, Trichy. Our students showcased their literary flair and artistic creativity, securing the Second Prize in the Literary Parade and the Third Prize in Tableau.
